Elaina had moved into a condo about a year earlier and was
having difficulty making it feel like her home. By using
what she already owned ReDesign & Go gave her condo the warm
and cozy atmosphere she had been seeking. Redesign will
work for you too! “You don’t need new stuff, just your
stuff!”

The focal point of the living room is the fireplace. The
fireplace is located in the center of a wall with a window
on either side of it. This leaves minimal wall space for
the sofa, chair and television. The arm chair was against
one wall with the sofa placed to face the fireplace. With
the sofa in this position the living area was a small
cramped space that felt very unwelcoming. The wall art and
accessories were not working to add any warmth to the room.
The mirror above the chair reflected a floor lamp and a
chest of drawers, located in the entry area, and the items
on top of it. These reflections did nothing to enhance the
space.

Now the fireplace has truly become the focal point of the
living room. With a different picture, some greenery, and
baskets the fireplace/mantle has an inviting ambience that
draws you into the space. The sofa, now placed against the
wall and facing the television, is flanked by a small table
and trunk. The wall art above the sofa shows a serene scene
with rich warm colors. The living room is open to the patio
doors creating a sense of spaciousness. Additional
accessories as well as family photos give the space an
inviting atmosphere.

One side of the living room opened into the front entry area.
You can see the small walk space between the sofa and
television credenza that provided access to the living room
space. A chest of drawers, placed on the back wall opposite
the front door, was being used as an entry table. The
television was placed on the common wall between the living
room and front entry.

The side chair has been placed so that its back creates a
“corner” in the living room. This placement opens up the
living room and allows easy access to the sofa and chair.
The chest of drawers has been replaced with an antique hall
tree found in an unused bedroom. A large family photo was
hung so that it could be seen from the living room. The
television was not moved, but the floor lamp was moved next
to the side chair to provide task lighting. The chair can
use the end of the credenza as a side table.

The formal dining room is to the right of the front entry
area with a half wall separating these spaces. A china
cabinet, rectangular table with six chairs and a few
accessories were the furnishings in this room. A large
family photo hung in the corner was seldom seen. The
assortment of accessories on top of the china cabinet
distracted from its contents. Note the arrangement of the
items in the china cabinet. Candle sconces were hung on
either side of the large window.

A round table and four iron chairs that were in the breakfast
area were moved into the dining room. This opened up the
space and added an interesting contrast to the room. Round
place mats and a candle stand with three pillar candles are
simple yet effective additions to the accessories. A single
silk ivy placed on top of the china cabinet adds warmth to
the room but doesn’t distract from the contents of the china
cabinet. The china cabinet was re-arranged so that less of
the wood cabinet back and more interesting accessories were
displayed. A candle sconce was placed on each side of the
china cabinet. A small book/DVD case is used to show off a
vintage pottery pitcher collection and adds some color to
the space.

The chest of drawers in the entry area was visible from the
dining room. The dining room chairs were difficult to use
due to the limited space between them and the half wall.

Now the antique hall tree is visible from the dining room.
Using this piece of furniture instead of the chest of
drawers helps guests to understand the purpose of this
space. The round dining table is angled so that the chairs
are not parallel to the half wall allowing more space
for the chairs to be pulled from the table.
